Some of us in CVN had been hearing about Club BYTE THIS! (CBT) Our reporter found out about it on the "politics board" off of the feedback boards available in any house. But what was it, what did they do that made them so special? CBT, was a by-invitation-only club, whose occupants included some leading or well known figures in Cybertown. They gathered to discuss, debate, post on their message and voting boards many and varied different issues and subjects, usually in a friendly, open and non-threatening atmosphere.
Well, we tracked down the owners, WEBBUM and SalvationPout, to find out.
SalvationPout told us "CT is a way of internet life that WE are the first to explore and "live" in. What better way than to have a place where diversity is welcome in thought and words. A place where you can say what you want and not be afraid, a place where you find out all your ideas have some merit in them and when put with other ideas become a GREAT idea... This is CBT!! I am so proud of WEBBUM in taking the initiative to bring this to fruition in CT!!"
Our reporter caught WEBBUM expounding to some club visitors about CBT's cyber-culture and mission statement.
"It's about self-improvement through personal expression, working on those skills we use in Cybertown everyday: verbal, written and visual communications." Webbum informed the visitors. He went on to add "…. by helping each other to improve in those 3 areas we are, in fact, improving Cybertown with immediate and proven results," Never a shy Cytonian, Webbum explained how it worked and the simple basic club goals, "By increasing the quality of interpersonal relationships developed within CBT, we are spreading a higher quality of communication throughout all the colonies' hierarchies and support networks. We are [were] privileged to have as club members many of Cybertown's finest senior managers, CLs, CDs, NLs, NDs , etc. interacting with each other in an environment geared for only one thing: to make Cybertown the BEST it can be. Period" .
CBT is and was by no means the only club making proposals to the council. It's the right of any Cybertown citizen to do so. CBT, by virtue of and through its senior membership was just one, perhaps faster and perhaps more fun, way of getting projects completed.
Many came to this group of talented individuals hoping to make our town life better. How could they do this? Through discussions of a proposal's merits and choosing appropriate courses of action. In the end taking issues that seem prominently important at some point in time, working with them by forming committees of people from each colony who then share their own insights and develop proposals of shared interest. Chairperson of the Proposals Committee, Karyll, a Colony Deputy in Inner Realms (and Colony CL in May), directed by CO WEBBUM, drafted a document, and once approved and finished submited it through the proper channels.
CVN Editor, jdb_educator told us his perceptions "They seem to be an interesting group of people, doing some exciting activities.." He confided in us, that he had joined, even tinkered with a proposal, but had not made it to any of the discussion meetings. "The meetings sounded like fun, and most important of all, they were actively doing something creative."
Don't let this important purpose fool you though, it's mainly about having fun and enjoying yourself. The motto of Club BYTE THIS! was "Expression is the purpose, Fun is the Rule!"
Perhaps there will be further and future Cybertown efforts along this general kind of club.
