A Cybertown Adventure
--- Part Two ------

Setting: This is the kind of multiverse where Old Earth is under attack, the Internet is under attack, and personal life styles are under attack. There is one brave planet in the fourth quadrant that is tired of defending and merely holding off the barbarians at the portal. And, of course, that planet is under attack as well...
As we were falling, the first thing I noticed was that I felt different, the energies were different. It was a different place and therefore, I supposed, each of us would become different. This was confirmed as we landed. Correction, I landed on the ground. cheercoach lightly drifted on wing power until she settled daintily on the ground. She was now a certifiable fae with beautiful wings. We all looked different from our city appearance. I wore a red robe and held a staff. mickey was covered with fur. Ablu had a cowgirl hat and a horse, and a big grin. tala wore a winged helmet and long blonde hair, and looked tough. dazzle was wearing a grey robe and a pointed hat. The two newbie's were standing and shaking. "Okay everyone," cheer said with a saucy, sweet voice, "we should probably consider forming a camp here and preparing for tomorrow."
cheer flew off to gather fire wood as we all began to move around together. ablu went up to the newbie's and huddled close, comforting them "It's going to be okay, guys. We are all here to protect and help you, and we will return to the city soon." The new citizens stopped shaking, laid down and began to sleep. mickey finished building the fire with cheer provided wood and began stalking around the camp with an air of urgency. He spoke quietly to me, never looking at me. "b1, I sense something.." mickey was rigid and tense as he whispered from far across the camp. Long ago, I recalled, we had established the bond of whispering to each other at great distances. "What is it." I replied, just as quietly. I grabbed my staff and prepared for the worse. mickey was rarely wrong.
"You were warned not to come here" an ominous voice whispered harshly in all of our ears. Venom flowed with the words. "The great hawk should not have tried to interfere. Now you will pay." As the whisper finished, monstrous figures shaped like gigantic toads with horns crossed into the light of the camp. One of them hit mickey, knocking him to the ground. mickey got up quickly and before my eyes transformed himself from his hairy presence into well, one could only call this creature a hairier mixture of man and a bear. Without hesitating he picked up a tree, not a branch, not a sapling but an entire tree and began batting toads around like they were baseballs.
I thought only briefly about the UBP, but we were elsewhere. Not in Cybertown. Hawk clearly ensured we all had special gifts. I turned and saw ablu ramming her horse into a group of demon toads as she fired her pistol into the crowd of them. dazzle quickly drew a circle on the ground and began a fast chant around the newbies. They were blue now. The circle blazed, stopping any toads from getting across. They hit the air around the circle like an invisible wall and bounced. It obviously frustrated them making them more and more angry. tala was the change that I saw the most difference in, she grew larger and stronger transforming into a warrior valkyrie, yelling war cries and throwing javelins into the oncoming attack. My change was one I had expected after I saw mickey. I was a wizard, I knew it. The ancient knowledge of rituals and spells flooded my brain, I pointed my finger and threw fire into the toads, burning them into crispy critters.
I knew that we had to wait for the sun to rise or the spell that was causing this attack would keep going. I also knew that the citizens would be safe with dazzle. But, I wondered, as I sent multiple flames at the toads, why were the newbies the focus of the attack? cheer was flying around with a wide grin on her face, soaring around the sky and dropping pixilated dust on some toads and watching them fall asleep while shooting arrows at others. Two of the toads leaped up high and grabbed her with their tongues, dragging her to the ground. Just as ablu rushed forward to rescue cheer, the sun came up. The toads returned to normal size. We were safe, but cheer was hurt. "Oh NO" yelled dazzle as she ran to cheer. "Maybe, just maybe I can help her." As dazzle closed her eyes and laid hands on cheer, touching the toad tongue drenched wings, you could tell the pain went away. Cheer's tight grimace eased. "She just needs sleep now" dazzle proclaimed as the rest of us moved tightly back to camp to lay down. I set a defensive perimeter. We would be invisible and protected too.
