"Helllllooooo…you there?" your friend asks.
"I’m at the new Plaza, meet me there…" is your reply.
He scans the list of people in the Plaza and is amazed at how many he knows…and how many new names are there. It’s almost like the Plaza crew turns over entirely almost every month. He reads the CVN Daily News as he keeps an eye for his name in the chat window. This gets a bit old, so he decides to go rearrange his house.
As he is dropping and moving around stuff in his house he gets an idea. Why not have a party? He could get his friend, Philly_Boy, to post the invite on the Colony message board. Cool. He now has something to do.
He thinks on a date, contacts Zoozee, who is now a Colony Deputy, about the invite and she is pleased to help out. Philly_Boy lets him know that he can post the invite to the Colony board himself, and reminds him to also post the "invite it" to the City Calendar located in the main control panel.
Philly agrees to post the invite on the block boards in Metaverse, the Hood where they live, as he can do that with one command. He also mentions the availability of some party supplies that are floating around the hood. Stuff like a flask of wine, a keg of Labatt’s beer, some banquet tables, etc. Philly even offers to “loan” him a nice hot tub so folks can soak if they want. He’s glad he has friends in high places.
He gets the invite from Zoozee and is very impressed by the high quality graphics and small file sizes. He wishes he could do some of this stuff himself, but those programs cost big bucks. Not this month at least. Zoozee gives him a script to post on the Colony Board/City Calendar, and agrees to send it to Philly_Boy to post to Metaverse’s block boards. Philly also turns him on to four very cool banquet tables each loaded with different food, a jukebox, a keg of Labatt’s lager, and a half keg of wine. He even loans him a cedar wood hot tub designed by someone named NightWonder and a nice billiards table.
Armed with all these goodies he returns to his house to place the objects and then wait for the day of the party. As he is placing the new and borrowed objects he can’t help but wonder if he’s doing all this for nothing. Will anyone even bother to show up? He posts the invite to Virtual Worlds Colony Message Board and the City Calendar. A few days later to his surprise he notices a few replies on the Colony Board of folks who seem interested in coming. He chats the party up every time he’s in the Main Plaza or one of the Café’s. But still he wonders if anyone will want to come to his little shindig. It’s not like he’s a Colony muckety muck like his friends Zoozee or Philly.
The day of the party finally arrives and he’s a nervous wreck 30 minutes before the official start time. Philly stops by to check on him and reassures him saying folks love a good party, and this should be a very good party.
“Don’t sweat it, C.M” Philly says, trying to soothe his nerves using the short version of his nickname. “Wait’ll you see how many folks come barging in here to eat all your food! You do have extra, right?”
“You really think a lotta people will show up?” our friend replies.
“Just you wait and see!” Philly says as he runs off to solve some security issue in the Main Plaza.
The appointed hour comes and goes and now he’s really fretting. Suddenly, almost as if someone rang the dinner bell, nine people show up! A few are friends from the Plaza, and a few others are from the Hood. Philly and Zoozee show up a minute later. Now he’s starting to feel good, greeting people and making sure they know where things are. People are now streaming in faster than he can thank them for coming. He checks the “Places” menu and his party in outdrawing everything except the Main Plaza and the Flea Market! People are showing up that he doesn’t even recognize.
At one point he has over forty five people in his little apartment! The chat log is flying, everyone is eating, drinking, LOL’ing and generally having a great time. Some of the Colony’s Hood Leaders come, and diverDestiny, Virtual World’s Colony Leader even makes a brief appearance in a stunning custom Av wearing a red dress. The CVN News Managing Editor jdb_educator comes with a Cytographer saying something about an article for the recently revamped CVN Weekly Magazine. Jdb interviews him and tells him the article will appear in the Society Section of an upcoming issue. This is way beyond his wildest expectations!
Needless to say, the party is the rage of the evening, with never less than thirty folks there trying to eat him out of virtual house and home. We should do this more often he thinks to himself…
Tune in next week as things heat up when our friend finds a “special friend”!
