...Virtual Life continues its constant pace of change. Over the past year, your Cybertown Security Department has changed and will continue to do so.
...We are not just cops any more. Enforcement makes up less than 50% of what we need to do. Instead, the trained and dedicated men and women of Security have taken on required, expanded roles that include Education, Helping, Records Keeping, and Communications.
...Education is a critical part of every officer's mission. Our unique range of experiences provide us with a huge knowledge base full of valuable information and skills. Our officers provide that to citizens every day… We warn the citizens about viruses and computer security issues, we promote password security, we advise people of the rules in Cybertown, we help newcomers with common questions, and we train new Colony level staff members on Security Procedures and proper use of tools.
...One of our most important jobs is that of the Helper. Each and every person, at some point in their life, will need someone to help The Security team is keenly aware of this and we are willing and able to assist. We are constantly training for this mission and when a citizen comes to us with a problem; we will be the compassionate, caring and trustworthy Online friend they need. We will do everything we can to help them realize the problems they face are not as bad as they think-even to the point of finding real life assistance for them if needed.
... One of our largest tasks by far is that of the Records Keeper. Our department is entrusted with keeping the vital records and statistics that are essential to the economy and government of our virtual community. We are required to collect and maintain files on every action we take. This includes every complaint we receive, every security alert we respond to, anything that looks suspicious, and any other content we see that is in violation of the CT rules.
...A typical officer will spend 4-5 hours per week on record keeping. While it is probably one of the services our officers like the least, it's one of the most important. Without our huge volumes of data the city would not be the same-our existence as a family chat site would be no more.
...Without our files our Colony Leaders and other government officials would have no way to tell if their staffers were good trustworthy members of our society or the person who was banned yesterday. Without our files there would be no way to keep out the anarchists, consistent rule breakers or others who seek to destroy the values and dreams that Cybertown represents
...Our final key mission is one of Communications. Communication is a vital key to serving our citizens quickly and effectively. We maintain a website at http://www.cytsecurity.com where citizens can contact us or research information about our department 24 hours a day.
...Our officers must also possess among the highest skills in written communications. Often times, it can be difficult to distinguish emotion and other feelings in a text based environment; so a member of our team must have a commanding knowledge of written speech.
...Additionally, Security maintains constant contact with our city leaders: Mayor, Deputy Mayor, the City Council, and our Founder acting as an important link to convey the needs and concerns of the city and providing advice and a suggested courses of actions when necessary.
...As the city grows and changes, your Security Department will also continue to change and improve its services for the better of all our citizens. While the services we provide may not always be those of the "cop" we will strive to live up to the highest moral standards and perform any task that is asked of us.
...Perhaps we could be thought of as the Cybertown "Virtual Guard" maintaining not just a team of officers but a core group of elite professionals ready and able to serve the city and perform at a moment's notice whatever task that is required.
... Truly, "To Serve and Protect" is our mission.
