The creator of B&W is Peter Molyneux. He has created games as Syndicate, Populous and Dungeon Keeper. And as you might suspect, you're the god in this game:...and the cursor is your hand. The game is all about good and evil. Will you create a perfect world full of beauty and harmony? Or will you choose a darker side with death and destruction?
Its very easy to start. You control a small village. You decide what you want to do. Let them fear you or praise and love you. Here is an example: A couple of fishermen are singing a song. They need wood for building a boat. As god you take some trees and bring them to the men. They will be happy and worship you as a good god. You receive points and a reward. Or, instead, you can sink the boat, take one of the men and throw him into the water, so that he drowns. Result: The other fishermen are scared and will worship you, but out of fear. You also receive points and a bonus.
Early in the game you come to a valley. There you, as god, have to adopt a little animal. That animal will follow you, and soon it will grow. It will be so big that it will be a giant. You will set the example. When you're an evil god, it will become evil pet. If you're a good god, it will become a good pet. You will have to treat the animal as if it were a little child:. If it does something bad, punish it; if it does something good, reward it.
Then you've got other problems, of course. How will you deal with the other residents of your world? Kill them off or try to bring them to your side? Whatever your creatures do, you will learn to love them, even if they are evil or good. Never will you be so connected with a computer character.
Black & White is a 'godly' game. You never felt yourself so involved with the characters and events that are playing on you screen. It's very impressive!
