Review
Golden Sun is one of the greatest Handheld RPGs ever made. Camelot has been perfecting the formula for years with the Shining Force games on the Sega Genesis. And it shows with Golden Sun. This game rivals that of most console RPGs.
Worried a Handheld RPG is going to look and sound bad? Fear not, for
Golden Sun is really a great looking game on a Handheld, and sounds great
too (even though that tiny GBA speaker doesn't produce that much sound). The
unique twist with Golden Sun is that you can have little creatures aid
your characters. They are called Djinn. These guys can really dish out the pain with
a Summons. These summonses look fantastic on the GameBoy Advance. Also, Djinn
can help your characters change classes to learn different spells. The
puzzles in this game are lots of fun too, and let you use Psynergy for the
Puzzles. Need a vine to grow? Just put some Earth Djinn on a character, and
go into his/her Psynergy list, and then cast a Growth spell to make that vine
grow to get into an area. Golden Sun also has a Two-Player mode that lets you
fight your party against your friends party. Also worried about a plot for a
handheld being watered down? Fear not there either! Golden Sun also breaks new ground in
handheld RPGs by having a great plot (even though you'll run into some lame
conversations, and some funky dialog). A miniature quest worth undertaking.
I give this game a 9.0. Brilliant Handheld Fun.
