I'm sure everyone has heard by now that Dudley Moore died a few days ago. The transplanted Brit. gave his American audiences some great laughs over the years, in films like "Micki and Maude" and of course, "Arthur." And my favorite number, "10." The title comes from the premise that men would rate a female's beauty on a scale from one-to-ten, 10 belonging to the most beautiful.
In "10" Dudley plays George Webber, a Hollywood fixture, and one-half of a successful song writing team, who at 42-years-of-age, is undergoing a mid-life crisis. He can't seem to commit to his long standing woman friend
(Julie Andrews) who's patience with him is always strained, but luckily for George, her mothering instincts are stronger than his loyalties
George seems to be little-boy-lost in search of something he can't quite realize, until, by chance he sees a lovely vision in a bridal gown, (the ever beautiful Bo Derek, whom qualifies more at a "12")! fresh from her
wedding, with a face with such heart stopping beauty that he is completely captivated by her, and thus starts George's roller coaster ride toward her arms, a ride that becomes painful for George and painfully funny for us! The
old parable; be careful what you wish for also becomes painfully obvious for George.
Written, produced and directed by Blake Edwards, whom is also the husband of Ms. Andrews, and music by Henry Mancini, whom has maintained a long movie music partnership with Edwards over the years, give this classic what it takes to be one! Co-staring Robert Webber, as George's song writing team mate. A homosexual who has his own relationship troubles, but keeps his insightful and perceptive wit tuned to George's connubial conundrum.
If you've never seen this adult themed, sex comedy, that must have been one heavy rock you were under! Sure, it's been on the tube, numerous times in watered-down edits that remove the nude scenes and the "adult
situations" not to mention commercial interruptions that murder it's timing! You owe it to yourself to view the DVD, which can be found these days at under "10"bucks! Dudley gives us every type of comedy from thoughtful comic
interludes to outright slapstick, and there's that flatulence joke that always breaks you up no matter how many times you've seen it! Beat the dog, indeed!
This is a spicy comedy for adults, and frankly, the kids wouldn't get it anyway! Take ten to view "10" and Dudley Moore once again!
