Are Video Games Art?

More and more, each and every day video games are being taken as a serious industry. Games are no longer toys, in a sense they never were. Games such as Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Devil May Cry are 'must have' games that people NEED to play.
They are not just games, they are an experience. That could leave you shaking your head, or even getting very angry when you finish them.
Developers like Hideo Kojima does not want his games to be toys. He wants them to something else. Which brings us back to our title…….
Picture the scene, a game costs more than the Monsters Inc DVD and as much as a Japanese Godzilla film. A team of 17 grows to 40 in the mad rush to get the game completed and ready to market on time. Yes, you probably guessed it, Metal Gear Solid 2, probably the greatest game of all time. The flawless animation, the in-depth plot and the superb game play really brings this game up to new heights. It is a bench mark for future ps2 titles. Sequels are being made and updates too. It seems that video games will probably last forever.
I landed a work experience job with Konami, and I have to say, I'm impressed. The way they all motivate each other really made me smile. The way they tirelessly work on projects, amazed me. Now I am thinking of joining the games industry when I am older. So the answer is a complete "yes!". Video games are not just toys, they are products of endless programming, testing, designing, they are experiences, they are art, but most of all they are created to entertain us, and I promise you all, they will for a long, long time.
