CYBERTOWN OBSERVED CHANGES

Cybertown Images and Pages
Come and Go

by jdb_educator, CVN Editor
This is the record of changes observed by this editor since Cybertown went down. The most recent are first, once they have been removed from the daily news. More current changes may be found in our alternate Cybertown Daily News at http://cvnweekly.50megs.com/Cybertown

--- August 29 - 30 --- YAY Images are back. Still no 2/D or 3D homes.

--- August 13 - 28 --- nothing found. now on laptop and I don't get any loading information at all.

--- August 12 --- Probably not significant, but those meaningless loading numbers went from 1% to 15% before stopping and showing no page found. Still it is a slightly different result.

--- August 6 - 11 --- Images continue to be gone when we checked. Only saw 2% loading, then no page to be found.

--- August 1 - 5 --- More meaningless numbers :). On the 5th, the loading shot up from 0 - 92 - 100%. On other pages it ran 0 - 18 - 100%, returning to the main html page. On the 4th, it seemed we were back to 1-18% before loading at 100%. Numbers went 1% -25% loaded on the third.. Still no changes, different numbers keep rolling on the 1st:(1& --33%--50%--100% and we noticed the clubs and hoods do not require extra effort (right click to freeze, then click anymore). Now the menus pop up and stay in place.

--- July 24 - 31 ----This morning, over that first cup of coffee, I did not even notice. Yesterday (30th), my browser again showed 1% and then 100%. Crazy browsers. On the 28th I watched my loading counter race from 1% through 100% using IE. Not much change, but the loading numbers keep changing in my visual. I saw a 50%, then 86%. lol it is "probably" meaningless. But any change is fun to note!

June 26 the redirect page jumped from 50% to full presentation. The login continues to show a highlight of the lost password icon. I'm wondering if that highlight means it is disabled or blocking access.

Saw it jump from 67% to the loaded redirect page on July 25. No other access change noted. Seemed quicker this morning. In our meaningless noting of details, we actually saw 90% loading on July 24 and on the IVN ad (for the public information, their video, etc.) at the bottom of the Cybertown homepage actually loaded requesting sign in. That could have been active sooner, but we have not checked that page regularly. The last time we did was probably in June when no page was found.

--- July 20 - 23 --- No changes noted (back to 18% loading). On the 22nd We watched as the home page showed loading up to 40%, before appearing. No other changes or usage were noted during our check.

Some secondary pages tried to load. We saw loading rise to 18% before it stopped and defaulted back to the home page. Images and html pages were back during our morning visit to Cybertown. Loading stayed at the 1% level on my computer until the redirect log-in page appeared. My effort log-in bounced back to the home page with the error page presenting itself above that page. It is nice to see the images again. Does it represent hope for the future? We simply do not know. All we can be certain about is something is happening.

--- July 12 - 19 --- No changes. Just a note. Page loading is back and forth from 1% to 2%. On the 12th, loading increased from 2% to 18%.
--- June 27 - July 11 --- It was a nice couple of weeks seeing the images daily, but they were gone again this morning when we began our daily check for activity at 7:48 AM on the 27th.

--- June 11 - 26 --- WE continue exploring. we could report on minor observations daily, but those may or may not be relevant. We have, for example seen the sign in page go from highlighting the email icon to not reacting at all when we attempt to log into the city, and back again. these are not big changes and could be browser fluctuations, but they do suggest some kind of change. It suggests only that something is happening. We have nothing new found to add today. We previously discovered and posted the IVN demo, which has changed from our last viewing a year or two ago. Their software capability has expanded from only adding a face to an typical avatar, to a full body view placed in a 3D setting. Perhaps you can watch this video too. Apparently it is posted on another site (vrimeo) but accessed at: IVN Demo

---June 10--- It was a pleasant surprise to log on and discover the return of our beloved Cybertown images. As usual there does not seem to be any 2D/3D access available, but this image return does let us know that the site continues to be worked on and that tiny bit of information, by itself, offers hope for the future possibility of the return of Cybertown.

In the final analysis, hope is all we have. CVN does not receive any publishable updates or news about what is happening. Even the Cybertown city council does not get more than a sliver of information on an irregular -now and then- basis. It is sad, but very much a real world kind of thing. What is possible? Everything is possible! The choices of what can be done by citizens and willing leaders has led and continues to lead to many wonderful discussions, and several interesting options. There are always choices, and each of us makes our own decision about what we are willing to do. And that, too, is a very Real World kind of thing! Isn't it amazing how life as a dedicated Cytonian resembles real life?

What will IVN do? Only they know, because no one from IVN is telling Cybertown leaders or citizens.

--- June 10 --- Cybertown images and some html pages have returned to web accessibility. No 2D/3D houses found.

--- May 17 - JUNE 9 --- No additional changes noted.

--- May 16 --- All images and pages are inaccessible today

---May 10 - 15 --- No additional changes noted.
---May 9 --- Slight changes noticed, but no access to city or 2D/3D homes available
---May 3 - 8 --- No additional changes noted.
---May 2 --- We can all remain hopeful, because we are seeing efforts to get Cybertown working. Cybertown images and html pages returned on our online page checks at 5:50 PM last evening and this morning at 6:56 AM (EST). No 2d/3d yet to be found.
---May 1 --- Later in the day we noticed that images and some pages returned. Site loading is still partial today. While pictures load, our browser jumped from 18% to the page. Our browser stopped at 38% and 40%. At least we get "website found, waiting for reply." We are seeking to understand what might be happening. Hopefully the results are showing the techs useful information. Certainly it is a different problem than we have seen.
---April 30--- No additional changes noted.
---April 29--- Cybertown images and pages have reappeared, no 2d/3d homes or plazas available. This is very good news and shows that efforts are still underway to bring Cybertown back. We can only wish the techs on this project the best of luck as we wait.
---April 14 - 28 --- No change in Cybertown as far as we can tell, and no information available.
---April 13--- Has the site been pulled for more tech work? Did it crash due to tech work, or other reasons? Is it gone forever? We do not know. All that can be said is that as of 6:11 this morning, no images or pages popped up when they were clicked. Admittedly we only chose a select few to check, and have received no notices or news about what is happening, so our thoughts are pure speculation.

---April 1 - 12 --- Nothing new to report.
---March 29 - 31--- No additional changes noted this morning during our daily check. We eagerly look forward to the next step in getting our city available.
---March 28--- Good Morning :) Good news indeed. Classify that under "better than no news!" Just before I went to bed last night at 9:59 PM MST (11:59 CyT) I discovered images were back. An email from ggb suggested he discovered that a little over an hour before I did. This morning I explored further. The html pages are viewable again. All the help sections I checked (Russian and Finnish) were working, just no access to the city itself or any of the 2D/3D houses .

---March 27--- Latest exploration noted a very minor change in loading. We've read through more than seven confirmations about the new inaccessibility. Stone_98 wrote back "From the appearance of the response, I'd say that the server that hosts the site is down right now. The DNS is resolving but there doesn't seem to be anything there to connect to. Hopefully it has been done on purpose so they can make whatever adjustments as quickly as possible." We didn't think of that possibility and did not realize the DNS was actually working. We will continue to follow this situation. We also know that citizens are frustrated and want CT back. We can only encourage patience and communication. Talk with your friends, reach out in email, phone, the net or anywhere you find them. It is the people and friendships that matter most.

---March 26--- Cybertown Confirmed: CT continues to not load at all

---March 25--- I booted up, grabbed my coffee, checked mail, scanned for news...Then clicked several browsers for Cybertown. The first thing I noticed was it was searching for the AT&T IP number. I asked myself what IS going on? It usually just pulls up the intro page and I see loading information. So I tried bing search. My AVG secure search seems to be taking over. I tried google search and it could not even present me a cached copy from March 22. Definitely weird. Pulling up the Alt News to check for images that did show yesterday and my html editor to write this article, I even see that all the Cybertown images the we use are gone. So now emails go out to verify it is not "just" my screwy computer or location. I even rebooted my computer to double check my results. We will report on those results tomorrow.

---March 23 - 24--- CT continues load slightly differently, and faster, but no additional changes noted as of 8:35 AM CyT.

---March 14 - 22--- No additional changes noted.

---March 10 - 13---We are preparing reports on available pages. Confirming reports have arrived. Nothing new. No more changes found as of 8:30 AM March 13. Cybertown usability increased on March 8 at 10:25 PM CyT. CVN received several viewer reports and is continuing to investigate URLS. Error messages continue, but there is no email address for alerting the webmaster of details. We expect such reports at this time are not needed.

We clicked on the usual URL and discovered images have returned and some pages are functioning. The Daily News has several pages-although most of the archives have been relocated. The login seems to kick you back to the sign in page without allowing further progress. However pages that are usually viewable outside of the city can now be accessed.

---March 9 2100 --- Our reported discovery of major CT changes on March 8 is renamed http://cvnweekly.50megs.com/Cybertown/index-2-030812.html It was a rare second edition on that date. (We are looking, but do not find the original editions for March 8 and 9.)

---March 8--- Cybertown usability increased on March 8 at 10:25 PM CyT
---March 1 - 7--- Cybertown is not usable.

No More Noticeable Changes Found
by jdb_educator, CVN
---February 20-29 2100 --- We do not see any other changes yet. We did analyze one of the error web pages that comes up and note that it reveals a "database error".
---February 19 2100 --- There does seem to be some confusion about yesterday's post, so we will attempt to clarify that. The only login page working is the redirect we always use. Our login is: http://www.cybertown.com/home/jdb_educator and we can only get forbidden or the "no index" page after logging in. When we type in an incorrect password, the application tells us so.

The immigration page is also on the redirect page. Try it without logging in and you'll probably see that same page we see.

If you do not usually use the redirect login:
it is a combination of this address followed by your Cybertown nick.

http://www.cybertown.com/home/ (Then type your nick)
You can -when CT works- use any citizens name and go to their house, after logging in. Of course that ability is not working right now.

---February 18 2100 --- Good Morning. It is Saturday and we discovered that the immigration page is up. The quick help page does not just say no index, but then we have images of both for you today as we document what appears to be progress. Still no access but, at this time minor progress.:

What Happened to CT?!
by Vaille, CVN
---February 16 2100 --- "CT became very unstable... kept going down more and more. IVN chose to change providers (went to AT&T) and there's been a slew of problems with the move. The most recent has something to do with permissions and that's causing the "forbidden access" type of page that's coming up now when we try to go there. On February 10th I was told it could take 2 weeks, but I don't consider that a promise that nothing else could go wrong to delay things further.

I seem to be able to get to at least a partially migrated subscription page, but to be honest I don't know if any changes I make there will translate to the actual member database so I think it best to wait until CT is back up. I'd hate to mess anything up more! :o)"

Vaille urges those who want their free subscription to "Keep your eye on Facebook and when you see that the city is back up contact me again, okay?"

Cybertown Rising?
---February 14 - 29 2100 --- We are exploring with additional city links. We find no huge changes .
---February 13 2100 --- no changes .
---February 12 2100 --- no changes noted.
---February 11 2100 --- I got the redirect page again. The log in is apparently working. I tried a wrong password and it was identified as an incorrect password. However, trying to get the "quick help page" off of the redirect page has resulted in the usual: no index page

---February 10 2100 --- In our clicking around exploration today, we discovered the new member page displays, but without images, like the other few pages. Attempting to log in still does not work, and any saved link may just take you to the redirect sign in page or one of the other pages that go no where.

---February 9 2100 --- We got our usual navigation cancelled this morning, so we refreshed and discovered the redirect page! No images were loading, but we tried logging in anyway, getting a black blank page and finally ended up with the no index page but there were CYBERTOWN Pages! We took screenies so you can see what we saw. Several individuals have reported similar experiences to us.

---February 8 2100 --- Yesterday, we had a bit of a shock when we clicked our Cybertown link late this morning. (12:50 PM CYT). This is what we saw: http://cvnweekly.50megs.com/Cybertown/ctpage020812.jpg (151 kb)

Older History
Waiting For Cybertown

by jdb_educator

--- February 8 2100 --- (7:44 AM EST) the usual checks. Not found.
--- February 7 2100 --- (7:20 AM EST) the usual checks. Not found.
--- February 6 2100 --- (6:18 AM EST and several times through the day) Routine checks, only blank, "not found" pages. We will continue to check
--- February 5 2100 --- A few more checks yesterday and this morning. No change. Nothing found. We can only wait and hope that everything gets working again

--- February 4 2100 --- Three more checks yesterday with no page found. At 6:48 AM CyT(EST) Saturday morning, we still find oureselves reporting nothing found.

--- February 3 2100 --- As of 7:08 AM Friday, we still find "not found" when we search. We will continue daily reports, now and watch for citizen reports.

--- February 2 2100 --- As of 7:16 AM we could not acess the city yet. But there is Good News: from IVN, late yesterday "...they are having a tough time getting our line up and running. I am scheduled to speak with them and their technical team today so that we can resolve this problem. I anticipate that service should be restored sometime soon during the week. Will keep you udated."

--- February 1 2100 --- Welcome to a new month. As of 6:30 CYT, we are still unable to pull up any cybertown pages. We will continue to check and report as news comes in.

--- January 31 2100 --- February starts tomorrow. As of 7AM CyT(EST) the site was still not showing up in our browser. However we did receive good news this morning around 8 AM EST. Wovencroft tells us "The new IP is there I can ping it after clearing my ipconfig cache. The city platform is not running yet." Our take is that IVN techs are trying to resolve problems associated with the move. Even though we cannot currently access Cybertown, it IS nice to know the site continues, even in the current limbo of the inaccessible.

--- January 30 2100 --- Unbelievable to our mind, but perhaps others are in fact finding Cybertown? We urge you to email us or contact us on Facebook, if and when you discover Cybertown online. We have been checking several times during the day since Cybertown began this transition. It could be that the trusted site designation is causing problems too, we just do not know. As of ths writing, our browsers are very quick to tell us simply "Not Found."

--- January 28 2100 --- The ISP Change is underway. We will continue to report here for as long as Cybertown remains offline. It should not take more than 24 - 48 hours for the new ISP host to spread its ID numbr through the Internet. The old number we used, we gathered today. It was was 38.119.86.136. Our efforts to contact people to alert them garnered us one email of thanks. You can tell when CT is back by clicking this URL and seeing if the news anchor image has returned or just click your URL for Cybertown.

--- January 27 2100 --- IVN says: "Please alert CT members that the migration will now be taking place on Friday January 27 sometime after 3:00pm PST. Thanks" (6 pm EST or CYT!)
--- January 24 - 26 2100 --- No word. We will update you when we hear or know. lol This is definitely a non-story!

--- January 23 2100 --- Still no word on the ISP Change.
--- January 20 2100 --- No news on change, no news on what happened to yesterday's effort to upload the news. We will send another file today.
--- January 19 2100 --- Still nothing new in our inbox, but the Daily News URL appears to be working.

--- January 18 2100 --- No additional information is available on when the IP change may happen. We did discover another crazy thing that has happened. We found the weekly news link has poofed from Cybertown. It was set up as a page link in the magazine folder, but no longer can be found. Beyond that we were astounded to see our update of the weekly has vaporized too. That could be something as simple as not publishing it, when we thought we did. The blog is supposed to replace the basic index.html at the cvnweekly site.
--- January 17 2100 --- We have powdered egg dust on our CVN faces folks! We believed the change had occurred from reports. In our hands this morning was an explanation that the IP shift has not happened for what appears to be good reason. We will continue to follow this wild and crazy (typical) Cytonian adventure and report on it.

Our Cybertown mayor gives us all excellent advice (thanks dazz!): "A good rule of thumb is to expect downtime soon, know that, and that when it happens, know the migration is likely taking place. For confirmation and/or updates as they are received, stay tuned to Cybertown's FaceBook Fan Page."

Thank you all for your patience and understanding.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled CT program....
