You Think You Had A Bad Day?
by jdb_educator, special to CVN

[This is meant to be a humorous piece, I hope you can see the humor here. I do and it all happened to me! I just shake my head. The *BOOMS* that follow are clickable links of images important to the story :)]

It all started on December 22, 2094 in Cybertown. At Midnight they turned the lights out for maintenance. Two days maximum …The Weekend Edition never got posted. Sunday I would create a mirror site. Two days, they thought. From there life's luck went south for the winter.

On December 23, down, down on the crazy Earth of 2006, I was minding my own business headed to friends after dropping off my son. We have dinner every Friday night possible. It is a ritual for my wife, oldest son and myself. Well...my son's van developed an ignition problem, he had to use a screw driver to turn it on. Turning it off was even more of a problem. We discussed it and worked on getting it to turn on and off. But that was minor…

I was minding my own business when I was backed into by a truck, in a parking lot, at a local shopping center plaza, in front of a bar and grill. Time? It was roughly 6:45 PM. You can see the results from a photo taken the next day. No access to either passenger side door, as you can see if you click on the boom. No time for estimates, No Insurance people to talk to until December 27th. Most businesses closing for the long weekend… Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. (Incidentally no one was physically injured. Just lots of emotional distress!)

*BOOM*

Now that would be enough for most, don't you think? My weekend was just warming up! Now we get to serious matters. No Cybertown, Saturday or Sunday ...Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Then my wife decides she wants to use the karaoke machine and sing. Well…Ok, she can sing…I'm the one that sounds like the cat is dying! My voice may even have killed a few cats! So I figure the karaoke out, hook it up and…

I step on the wires leading to the Big Dish satellite console, pulling out a few. After several missed tries. I get them connected but…NO PICTURES. No Sound. Signal reception is at 10% wherever I go. I try rehits online (through my service providers website I can reconnect all services. It doesn't work. I call the service provider. They try to help me and tell me since I cannot seem to connect…they cannot help! I call the maker of my Receiver. My call goes to the "overflow service desk" for "call backs." Yeah..like THAT is going to happen. It doesn't. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

*BOOM*

Frustrated I turn on my computer and loaded up my game. I'm going strong on Civilization III and almost ready for the coming war by three Evil opponents. It was declared when…(you guessed it…)
*BOOM*

My lovely little 16 meg graphic card gives me a black screen and no way to access anything else on my computer. I have to reboot by holding down the on/off switch for 4 seconds. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. This problem had actually been happening on and off for almost a month or so. It took time to diagnose the exact cause. I played with video card settings and thought it was fixed. I reboot the game and get…"tile error" ...Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Now the problem is a little exagerateed in this

*BOOM*

I had to return to an earlier save of my game and replay several years. Gee… just like getting killed in any first person shooter game. BUT…Civilization isn't a first person shooter game!

I wasn't your happy go lucky happy person going into Christmas Eve, for reasons you now know. Fortunately I got a break and nothing disastrous happened THAT night. Christmas Day another reprieve, except still no Cybertown. I loaded the Christmas Edition to my site, sent a few emails and we went to Christmas lunch at a Restaurant.

Tomorrow…we will present Outcomes: What happened with each of these little problems described above. It is events like this that make up our crazy patchwork quilt of what we call "life on Earth." Laugh and the world laughs with you…Cry and you have lots of tears and pain. So laugh, world, laugh! Human life really is the funniest thing in the Universe.
