Today's News

We're at The Hub tonight. jdb_educator, reporting! We usually find our news makers here. and you never know just what might come up.

Today we have a chopped up some of the convo from Sunday night's (July 14, 2013) chat in the Hub, edited it into a couple stories that may be of interest.

Chat Stories: Speed up Your Browser

Founder Deighv 383880 : Hey, want a cool tip to speed up your browser?
LOG OUT of FB before closing the page :) Otherwise it dumps about a dozen or so tracking cookies in your comp.
Employment Facility Manager BusyLion 132505 : OMG
Founder Deighv 383880 : That's not counting any FB apps you have installed that add their own
Sentinel Editor jdb_educator 2700 : That's why I pretty much use chrome only for FB.
Places Director Cheyla 130480 : ditto jdb.
Employment Facility Manager BusyLion 132505 : holy crow
Founder Deighv 383880 : They track what "type" of sites you visit so they can customize their ads for you in FB.
Employment Facility Manager BusyLion 132505 : so that won't give my passwords to other sites tho, right?
Founder Deighv 383880 : no.
Founder Deighv 383880 : No actual personal info.
Founder Deighv 383880 : Mostly demographic stuff
Places Director Cheyla 130480 : chrome is good for that, with the ad blocker extension.
Founder Deighv 383880 : ad blockers won't prevent tracking cookies, but most Security software will remove most . . . IF you have logged out of FB.
Places Director Cheyla 130480 : I always do.

Chat Stories:Lost Passwords!

Founder Deighv 383880 : Ever use "SIW" BL?
Satellite Owner Storm 103535 : on facebook, thought you needed your password
Places Director Cheyla 130480 : guess I'm super paranoid. I log out of everything and then run ccleaner lol
Employment Facility Manager BusyLion 132505 : I think it says my password is *******
Sentinel Editor jdb_educator 2700 : lol
Entertainment Director Medeusa 90220 : wow
Satellite Owner Storm 103535 : so update it lol
Entertainment Director Medeusa 90220 : that's the same as mine!!
Employment Facility Manager BusyLion 132505 : google browser kept me logged into FB
Founder Deighv 383880 : SIW will show you your hidden passwords using a cool "Eureka" tool :)
Founder Deighv 383880 : http://www.gtopala.com/
Employment Facility Manager BusyLion 132505 : *thinks about saving that url for tomorrow*
Founder Deighv 383880 : It'll replace the asterisks with your actual password

Check out the epod!

There are movies online at 3DP! We wanted to check out the software so opened the epod in a new page, which opened the cinema in yet another page. We closed down the extra pages and selected a movie. we began looking at Hansel and Gretel: Witchhunters The software worked perfectly for us for the 17 minutes we spent looking. We played with the controls and hope to finish watching it. Last night we watched Olympus Has Fallen. Everything went well until about 25 minutes into the movie we began experiencing brief lags as the streaming cache wasn't keeping ahead. We paused the video for a few minutes and had no problems the rest of the way through the movie.

Here is our Planet X Tour at 3DP

We present our quick tour overview of Planet X. None of the images reach 300kb.

3d Planets: Touring Gaia2

You can go to http://3dplanets.com/ yourself, to explore.

Here is our guided tour of part of Gaia 2. The first planet at 3dPlanets we will explore. We have added 8 graphic captures to our Exploration of part 1: Gaia2. We will tour all three planets before deciding where we might choose a home. Each planet will have at least one page devoted to that exploration. so let us begin!

3d Planets: My First Exploration #2

Although I never received an email, I do have access and have begun to explore. Today I saw no one at the Hub (Staff lounge), and no one on Gaia. Over the next several weeks I will take a look at each of the planets within the site. I took a quick trip around looking at all three : Gaia 2, Starhenge, and Planet X. Next I go in depth on each planet to report the findings to our readers.

Next week you will have a report on the four hemispheres of Gaia 2. They are Oceania, Skyhome, Highpoint, and the Asteriod Belt. Their 3D Chat World is Courtesy Of Skippybrand !!! Here is their mythos:

"Imagine a futuristic planet with little dry land. A planet covered in water that has evolved into a nautical and airborne society held together by determination and ingenuity.

The inhabitants of this flourishing planet live not only on incredible floating cities upon the surface of the ocean and in the air, but also deep beneath the waves.

Because of the planet's rotation, axial tilt, and short year, Gaia 2 enjoys a constant climate, there are no storms and the ambient temperature hovers around 75 degrees fahrenheit. A constant light breeze makes this a sailors paradise.

3d Planet Basics

You can go to http://3dplanets.com/ to explore.

3DP uses blaxxun 5.3 and Java. I registered and clicked 3d. I started using slimbrowser, but soon switched to CrazyBrowser Here is what we saw on that very first visit. Take a look at our 3DP screenies.

How We Understand 3D Worlds Today

The pattern of 3D worlds we are seeing in our research is becoming clearer. There are worlds out there. So far our research seems to break them down into three major online categories (all seem to have pay/premium options): different worlds targeting children and young teens; social sites for adults; and sex and dating sites. The uniqueness of a Cybertown focused on jobs, education and training, working together and various levels of political participation and competition is missing.

There is a fourth category of games, online and downloaded. The separation of these to a different category may be silly. Cybertown was a role play game as much as it was true virtual living to many of its citizens. Still, we will separate it.

Our FIRST 3D World Interview

We will do separate pages for each interview and post them here, until we have to create a separate page to archive our interviews.

Our first interview is with amazing_warrior from United3d as well as 3d Planets and 3dhappiness. (http://cvnweekly.50megs.com/292/amazing_warrior.html)
