Sentinel Weekly News

NEWS This Week

Deighv tells us "According to Toxic’s last article, 3dplanets will be back online in about 3 weeks or so. I haven’t heard anything to the contrary so that time-frame is accurate to my knowledge.

3dpNet continues to grow after it’s recent crash-and-burn, we now have 67 members, 13 in just the past 7 days, 11 of those completely new to the Blaxxun experience. 3dpNet has been re-opened for a month now with no serious bugs and a couple of minor glitches that were reported were fixed promptly. Some Members have inquired about added VRML content and functionality and I am looking into this, perhaps adding VRML “Galleries” so Members can display their own 3D items/worlds. We are still looking for suggestions for new content and features for 3dpNet so if you have an idea feel free to let us know! Confidential email can be sent to deighv@live.ca.

Don’t forget that our “Tech Support” found on the Main Menu in 3dpNet is not just for problems with the site, we will also try to answer questions you may have with any of your computer issues whether they be technical, HTML or software related. It can’t hurt to ask! Have a great week!"

When the Work is Done

Hello 3DP!!
by Cichlid, Sentinel Photographer, author, and reporter

Hello all my favorite 3DP people, yes you heard me. Soon it will be lay off time for me. As you all may or may not know I work construction, concrete. This year we put in a lot of stamped concrete at the new midland mini mall, across from Dow Baseball field-The Loons. Yes, I said Dow, a world wide well known name. Right here in Midland Michigan.

Oh, we did put on all the concrete, walk and parking lot there to a few years back. But the stamped concrete was exciting. I took a lot of pictures of it from start to finish.

It took us 12 hours to finish 4 loads of concrete that day. That was a very long and cold day. And still the next day they had to saw cut, then chip out a few places. The following day they had to antique it after that dried, we had to seal it. It's a lot of work, but the end product looks good.

The reason it takes so long it the weather is getting colder and the concrete doesn't set as fast. Speaking of cold weather, I have to scrap the frost off my windshield in the morning. Sometimes it only gets to 46 degree's. But when it's windy, it's colder.

And as luck would have it we are working on the 'shady' side of the building. Now I wonder why we weren't working on the shady side when it was 90 degrees??

Well I am looking forward to the lay off. Gives me more time for my writing. And hopefully I will Finish my NaNo. This is the first time I ever entered in. I ran into a few bumps in the beginning. Did a few things wrong, but got everything straightened out, Thanks John.. Anyway, My new book is Paranormal. First time I have written a book like this and I am really excited to see how it turns out. So far, I Like...

FREEBIES!!!!

It's Freebies Time
A new series by Medeusa, Sentinel Star reporter, and Entertainment Director

Yup. My illegal Unrepresentative, moussy-piece, jdb, can keep me being published even when I'm offline screaming at my buggy computer!

Today I offer you three freebies for exploration. If youse guys are good (or bad) I'll offer ya up a few more next week and the next, and then ... muahahaha ... even longer!

Gloodle
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Graphic-Others/Gloodle.shtml
creates 3D 'textures', very easy to use.

Fractal Snowflake Generator
http://www.softpedia.com/progScreenshots/Fractal-Snowflake-Generator-Screenshot-1004.html
Very easy to use program used to create snowflakes that can be used as textures or art

morguefile
http://www.morguefile.com/
Free images to use as textures, art, or whatever. only rule is, you can't use as is. Shhh that's where jdb steals some of his images for those crazy headers he creates.

The Voice Chat

Our explanation was corrected and expanded with the same picture of the RAID screen still marked with four points, followed by explanations. Hopefully It will help you understand a little more about the voice chat. Thanks Deighv!!

3DPLANETS?

Where has 3dPlanets.com been?
By Toxic Terry, 3DP Founder

So YOU are surfing for your favorite 3D chat site and you always end up at 3dpnet for some strange reason. While the 3dpnet.ca site, or the “Social Network” of the main community, is an integral part of our enjoyment, it is not what we typed into our browser. You think to yourself “What happened?” Numerous members of 3dplanets.com are probably wondering why our main website & community has been down since summer. Well here are the details that many don’t know about and several answers that will make you happy.

To understand our predicament, let’s flash back to the June of 2013. That was the month I decided to visit my family in Florida. As our community and server were running well, I believed that a small vacation was well warranted. Boy was I wrong. Within days of being away from the server in Virginia, I found out that our Service Provider was planning to increase its monthly fees. At over $150.00 monthly in recurrent charges (and it was about to be raised), we made a decision to switch providers. I have been paying that price since 1998, and that doesn’t even cover the domain name, server costs and the continuing electrical bill.

I signed up for a new Internet Provider for the server after figuring out what was needed. With all the respectful gathering of information as respects to the change, I went forward with the modification with the help of Danette G. (or Toxiette as many of you might know her) in Virginia.

The first problem arose when the installers came out to hook-up the new service. The personnel began to explain to Danette that a Static IP was needed in order to run the 3DP Server, even though earlier in the month that service provider had explained to us that we could use the package without any change in protocols. A Static IP address would cost us much more than we had planned.

I know how to fix the static IP situation without having to subscribe to a higher rate of payments monthly. But…

The second problem was that I was going to be stuck in Florida much longer than first believed because of unforeseen circumstances. Because of this, we had to come up with a new plan. After many talks with fellow Founder Deighv, we were going to send the server to him in Canada. But shipping costs were way too high for a non-profit site such as 3dplanets.com. And also there wasn’t any guarantee that he wouldn’t run into any problems

Here comes the good news. I will be returning to Virginia most likely within a month and hence fix the Server. I just have to tie up some loose ends here in Florida, and then “3DP Server here I come”.

So for all you famished 3dPlanets members, the light is getting brighter. We have been your “go to” Virtual Reality Chat site for over a decade and we are not about to stop now. For now tho, enjoy 3dpnet.ca for its splendor and delight in the fact that we will be back as soon as humanly possible.
